So…You’re Buying a House!

I still remember buying my first home like it happened yesterday!  The nervous excitement, the hope for the future, the memories of the “firsts” that brought smiles!  It was one of the best memories of my life and I will always treasure the experience–one of the main reasons the brought me to this profession!

It’s natural to have questions about the process, to worry and wonder.  Having a trusted real estate professional by your side is a critical piece of your journey.   As your REALTOR®, I will guide you through the process, navigate the challenges at your side, negotiate on your behalf, maintain confidentiality and transparency at all junctures, answer your questions and be in your corner at all times.

YOUR FIRST STEP

The first step in your journey will be to obtain a preapproval letter from the lender of your choice.  Your lender will factor in your income, expenses, assets and debts to determine if you will likely qualify for a mortgage.  The lender will also discuss with you critical components like interest rates, monthly payments, closing costs and programs that can help you manage costs.  Together, you will determine the monthly payment that you feel comfortable with and, based on what you wish to pay per month, you will learn the price range that your home search should pinpoint.

THE NEXT STEP

With price range and preapproval letter in hand, it’s time to reach out to me for our buyer consultation.  I’ll explain buyer representation and the entire home-buying process.  I’ll note the areas you identify for your home search and begin sending you listings that might meet your home search criteria.  It’s advisable to think about what your “must-have’s” are and then to list what your compromisable features are.  No home will have it all–we will try to get as close to your wishlist as we can.

Then, let the house hunt begin!  Seeing houses is all the fun!  Imagining your new life in your new home is exciting. You pick the places, I make arrangements for the showings you request and, together, we view the houses.  Eventually, you will walk through the door and think, “This is the one!”  Let the fun begin!
